GAME Shutting Down Gameplay.co.uk

35 High Street Stores To Close

GAME's inevitable restructuring is finally happening, big-style. In an effort to combat an extremely worrying financial situation and reduce overheads, the beleaguered retailer has confirmed that Gameplay.co.uk will close on March 1st, redirecting customers to Gamestation instead.

"So that all of our customers can enjoy the benefits of the new online platform that we launched last year, Gameplay customers will be served through Gamestation.co.uk from March 1st 2012, including customer support for their purchase."

"All new orders will be directed through gamestation.co.uk from that date. We're talking to our customers who access our online community through Gameplay about this today, and look forward to welcoming them to the growing community at gamestation.co.uk." - Game Spokesperson to MCV

35 high street stores will also be closed, which is the first step in a plan to reduce 610 stores down to 550 by 2013. We wish the best of luck to all those affected.

I received an email from Gameplay about this news and they have given a £5 off code to spend online at Gamestation! Now that's a great way to keep their customers loyal and happy!

Awesome! And you're right, that's a properly forward-thinking idea.

Although I work in one of the physical Gamestation stores, I hereby apologise in advance for our website. It's embarrassing having to direct customers to our site when we're out of stock or whathaveyou, it's poorly designed, slow as all hell; the background even looks like a shuttered store! And this is AFTER it was relaunched last summer.

This is just one of the reasons why it's NOT good for so many of the places that sell games in the UK to be owned by one company.

I used to buy all my games from gameplay.co.uk but then they started being unable to deliver pre-ordered games by release day, so I started using Amazon.co.uk instead and I've never had a problem since.
