SEGA has announced that we can turn our QWERTY keyboard into a deadly weapon thanks to Typing Of The Dead: OVERKILL, a brand new adaptation of the quirky spelling/shooter hybrid that's now available on Steam. We can blast zombies and brush up on our words per minute in one convenient grindhouse package.
Typing Of The Dead: Overkill is an all-new revamped version of the Dreamcast-to-PC oddity, which resembles a classic lightgun shooter in every key respect but one. Zombies? Check. Over the top House Of The Dead action? Check. Light guns? Nope. Instead, you'll have to type words and phrases that appear on screen to fight off the ravening hordes, which rewards perfect spelling and grammar with gory kills. The new version is based on House Of The Dead: Overkill's grindhouse campaign, while the original gane is also included in the package with mouse support.
“People often gripe about how video games aren’t educational or useful in everyday life,” said Ollie Clark, Creative Director at Modern Dream. “But with The Typing of the Dead: OVERKILL you can now shoot up a carnival full of flesh eating mutant clowns while improving your typing and personal vocabulary. Happy Halloween!”
“I can’t give you a quote AND simultaneously fend off legions of the dead by typing progressively more complex words and phrases at the same time!” said John Clark, Vice President of Digital Distribution for SEGA West.
Typing Of The Dead: Overkill is currently 50% (£7.49) off until November 1st, after which it will return to its normal price point. £14.99 might seem like a big ask, but I'll probably give it a whirl. Let's face it: anything to improve my speling cudn't hert.
