Gamescom 2013

MattGardner |  Aug. 20, 2013 at 08:38

Howdy folks! Carl and I are currently in Cologne all week and will be getting to grips with as much as we possibly can at Gamescom over the next few days. You can check out a preview of this year's show and a run-down of what we'll be seeing here:

Although we've got appointments locked in for much of the time, we'd like to know which games you're most excited for, whether there's anything in particular anyone would like us to cover or any specific questions people want asked. Basically, this is the place for any and all Gamescom chat!

See you on the other side!

I'd like a definitive answer on which is better out of the PS4 and XBox One, please. Show your working.

X-Rebirth please

On a serious note, XCOM Enemy Within has piqued my interest. I'm approaching the end of Enemy Unknown and would welcome more of the same with open arms

I'd like to know how's the weather, the beer, and the bratwurst?

Ignoring the exclusives (and the timed exclusives and exclusive dlc), which everyone will cover to death, I'm interested in hearing about the differences in playing experiences on the multiplatform games.
I'd like to know how Kinect's features/capabilities are being incorporated into each xb1 game. Why is the xb1 version better than the ps4 version?
Similarly I'd like to know how the touchpad is used in each ps4 game. Why is the ps4 version better than the xb1 version?

I'd also like to know how big a playing area you need for Kinect 2 to work properly (I have a small living room). All I've heard is it's more accurate and will work in smaller rooms than Kinect 1 did, but nothing specific.
A pure gaming convention isn't the ideal place to get that info, but I'd imagine there's a lot of people there who've worked on games with Kinect's capabilities and restrictions in mind.

I'll lap up any info you can get on Watchdogs, despite Ubi binning you off at the last minute. :(

And if there's any news from Valve on Half Life, Portal, or steambox make sure you're all over it!

We're booked in to see X-Rebirth and we'll be chatting to Egosoft on Wednesday. We're due to touch base with Microsoft tonight at a community event and we'll be visiting their booth every day for the rest of the week so we'll certainly try and get that Kinect info for you, Late.

We'll see what we can do re. Ubi though they've not been enormously forthcoming.

Tell them Late sent you. You'll find that opens a lot of doors.

Here's a little update for you folks...

I got hands-on with Enemy Within today and here's an interview with Garth DeAngelis on the way (he loved Toby).

We've got a 10-15 min video of Bernd Lehahn giving a presentation of X-Rebirth, though I haven't gone through it yet to see just how much of it will be useful. Chances are, we'll cut it minimally and stick the whole thing online. There'll definitely be a hands-on write up.

Discussing Xbox One platform architecture and Kinect at MS tomorrow, so might have some answers for you there, Late. Took a chance on Ubi and managed to waltz into hands-on time with Watch Dogs and The Crew, and get a look at South Park as well, so keep an eye out for those.

Last day tomorrow and I'll be spending much of my time with EA, so if there are any other questions, folks, do let me know!

Thanks Matt. And nicely done blagging your way into Ubi territory :D

[Insert wholly inappropriate witticism about the Frenchies suddenly being compliant now they're surrounded by Germans]

I'm interested in how developers will be making use of MS's cloud infrastructure. Will any/more developers be making use of it for dedicated servers...?

Dedicated servers are a big thing for me. Dodgy netcode for games being run on some kids dodgy shared adsl ruins games and probably the only thing I miss about PC gaming.

Dunno if anyone's asked them already, but see if you can get a release date for the xb1... ;)
