Mixing the same fantastic visual appearance and run and gun gameplay that made the original so great with a deeper narrative and improved, huge environments, makes Gears of War 2 a more than worthy sequel.
You can pick up the Game of the Year edition for just £15.99 from Gamestation at the moment, which is £3 less than the next best price (£18.99 at Gameplay).
This being the Game of the Year edition, in addition to the game itself, you get the the "All Fronts Collection" add on which gives you 19 extra multiplayer maps, new campaign chapter "The Road to Ruin" and all the available achievements.
Gears 2 sees Marcus Fenix and his squad sent right down the rabbit hole as they infiltrate the lair of the Locust in an action bloodbath that is both beautifully cinematic and breathtaking intense.
The game feels almost exactly the same to play as the original (which is only a good thing) but with some tweaking and refining, giving improvements to the cover system and giving an even better multiplayer experience. The excellent graphics are complemented by some amazing, epic environments and beautiful set-pieces that show just what the Unreal engine is capable of.
The main campaign is excellent, particularly when taken on with a friend in co-op mode, and I certainly appreciated the deeper and more emotional storyline. The multiplayer offers a variety of modes, including the extremely satisfying new Horde game. All in all, Gears of War 2 is very solid and well made and offers a fantastic gaming experience.
