Gears of War 3 could possibly have a female lead, according to creator Cliff Bleszinski in today’s news roundup. In other news Gearbox Software are confirmed not to be involved with the new Halo game, and more confirmation of the PS3 Slim comes from Amazon Germany.
Gears of War 3 May Have Female Lead
Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski, AKA “Cliffy B” or perhaps “The Cliffster” if you prefer, has hinted at the possibility of a playable female character appearing in the next installment. “Captain Snugglepuff” (another pseudo name) when asked if female characters will be playable in the next Gears of War, answered that he could not discuss “possible aspects” of a game that “may or may not” be in development.
Following this comment he then mentioned a female COG solider who features on the cover of the Gears of War comic book, suggesting she “may or may not” be involved in any “as-yet-unannounced” video game projects. Cheeky scamp. Gears of War 3 may not be announced yet, but surely inevitable. Female lead or not, who knows? [BineGamer]
GearBox Software Not Making New Halo
A rumour materialized over an entire year ago, suggesting that Gearbox Software (developers of the upcoming Borderlands) were given the task of making the next Halo game by Microsoft, possibly as a launch title for the next generation of Xbox hardware. On the official Halo Waypoint Twitter account a post has only now refuted this, reading “For the record, Gearbox is NOT working on a Halo title for Microsoft”.
Rather strange considering the rumour surfaced a year ago and is only being denied now. However it IS true that Gearbox are working on something Gearbox president Randy Pitchford describes as “big. It's, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big...When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one.” Now it’s confirmed that it’s not Halo, what could it be? More PS3 Slim Confirmation
A new listing popped up on Amazon’s German site for “PlayStation 3 Konsole slim”. Even not being fluent in German you can probably guess what this means. The listing currently has no price, or release date, but further adds to the growing pile of evidence that is now big enough to form its own island. Perhaps Amazon Germany listed the PS3 slim on their own accord, with no involvement from Sony, but whatever the case nothing can be confirmed until we hear from Sony themselves. [Engadgnet]
