George 'GeoHot' Hotz has finally spoken out on yesterday's reports that he had fled the US to South America to avoid a court-ordered seizure of his hard drives in the well-publicised court battle with Sony. His response? "ROFL."
Writing on his personal blog, Hotz explains that it was "factually true" he is in South America, but that he is on a vacation he had planned and paid for since last Novemeber, stating "it is spring break; hacking isn't my life." He went on to assure readers that he had not been scamming those that had recently donated to his legal battle against Sony for his own recreational needs, and that he was fully committed to the ongoing dispute.
Rest assured that not a dime of legal defence money would ever go toward something like this. And of course [Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton - Sony's choice of legal firm on this matter] loves the idea of painting me as an international fugitive.
I have been in contact with my lawyers almost every day... I would not let the case suffer.
So after a day of reports exploding across the internet, it turns out he's just having some fun in the sun. Let's hope he enjoys it while it lasts, because this saga is far from over. Major thanks to ODB for updating us on the situation! [Eurogamer] [BBC News]
