I was all ready to launch into a tirade about the latest kids' movie tie-in “G-Force”, only to lose my steam when I realised that, actually, it's not all that bad after all. In fact, for just £17.43 from The Hut, it's actually a bit of a bargain!
According to price comparison, this is a saving of more than £7 from the next best price!
Based on the recent CGI film, G-Force stars a team of crazy FBI trained guinea pigs and their insect pals who escape from the pet shop that they are sent to after they are deemed a security risk. The game takes place after the guineas escape from the pet shop and manage to infiltrate the home of the evil billionaire, Leonard Saber and his army of household robots.
GForce has a surprising amount to offer, with entertaining puzzles and fast, fun combat with strong, precise controls. The visuals are nicely done (with the piggies themselves looking pleasingly plump and round) and offer the unique opportunity of playing in 3D with the glasses provided. This works reasonably well although by no means perfectly and be prepared for sore peepers if you choose to keep it turned on for any extended period of time. It's a shame there's not more colour when you choose to play in this mode though, especially considering that this is a game that will mostly appeal to kids. If you have not seen the film then the story will probably baffle you but, happily, this doesn't detract from the potential enjoyment too much.
So there you have it - a game based on a kid's film that is actually well made and a worthwhile addition to your PS3 collection. Who'd have thought it?
