Ok, so Ubisoft have announced that Ghost Recon Online's set for release in early 2012 and it'll be a brand new massively multiplayer online (MMO) title for the PC. If you like the sound of that, then you'll probably also be pleased to here that it'll be offered free to play, with a closed beta programme, which you can get access to this summer.
Now, whilst the game'll be free to play, there'll be a selection of high quality items that you'll have to pay for, in order to equip them and give yourself a slight advantage.
Anybody who's played one of the previous instalments of the series will know that you have to think tactically, as well as getting into cover quickly to avoid enemy fire, whilst keeping an eye on your character in a third person view, and Ghost Recon Online won't be any different.
Ubisoft have stated that they'll "back the game with a full set of services, including regular events and game content updates, customised content based on community feedback, and live support."
When asked about the game Ubisoft's senior producer, Hugh Ricour, had this to say:
Ghost Recon Online takes the best attributes of the Ghost Recon game franchise and brings them online, making the experience of being a Ghost accessible to millions of new players and fans.
This game [Ghost Recon Online] was designed from the start to be a free-to-play experience. Our development teams are dedicated to making Ghost Recon Online a truly unique, top-quality online title
Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillermot, revealed the following about Ubisoft's aim for their upcoming online projects:
The online market is an exciting new frontier for video games and for gamers. With Ghost Recon Online, and other major upcoming projects, Ubisoft is creating online experiences that allow our fans to stay connected to their favourite brands and to continually receive new content and gameplay. This direct link with our fans will allow us to create new and ever better experiences for them.
