In the wake of Assassin Creed IV: Black Flag's piratical reveal, one could be forgiven for wanting to seriously shiver some timbers. Well, if the urge to cast off onto the open seas for a spot of plundering is proving overwhelming, we might just have the antidote.
Jonathan recently previewed AnnoGames' Kartuga - a free to play title that sees you setting sail for booty and bounty in an expansive open world, or alternatively blowing tens tons of hell out of your mates in PvP. Here's what Scurvy Jon had to say about the game:
Kartuga's world is a colourful and fantastical take on classic pirate themes: bright Caribbean port towns, vibrant lagoons, sandy islands and vast expanses of glittering ocean realised in chunky 3D visuals. Even in an early pre-beta stage (evidenced by numerous connection issues and plenty of placeholder GUI assets), the stalwart Unity 3D engine has acquitted itself well, relying on relatively simple yet eyecatching aesthetics to guarantee compatibility with lower-end PC hardware. Cast as a green pirate captain, you'll choose a ship and sail into the ocean blue in search of gold, ship parts and scurvy lubbers to terrorise.
Anyway, Kartuga has entered closed beta, and we've got a good hundred beta keys to giveaway if you want to jump into the action early.
All you have to do is pop us an email at [email protected] with 'Kartuga Beta' in the title, and we'll mail one out to you. But be quick. Once they're gone, they're gone.
Here's the official blurb so you'll know what to expect:
All three classes will be playable, along with full customization via nine skill branches. In addition, more than 20 of the game’s targeted 40 ship types will be implemented. Players can already try out both PvP-modes:
· Domination - a variation of classic king-of-the-hill
· Destruction - a mode similar to that of capture the flag, where a bomb has to be collected and detonated in the enemy team’s base.
Furthermore, five areas of the large open world of Kartuga are accessible, enabling players to encounter NPCs and solve various quests in between PvP-matches.
