God Of War: Ascension Announced For PS3, Trailered

After a cheeky Amazon listing blew the lid off of Sony's mysterious vengeful announcement, SCE has hurried to officially confirm...

God Of War: Ascension!

We called it. You guessed it. Amazon leaked it. But you might not have figured out that it's a prequel. Click below for some new details and a trailer for the next God Of War title slated for PS3.

God Of War: Ascension will be set before Kratos made his deal with Ares, when he was originally an exceptional and brutal Spartan general. It will doubtlessly deal with his ascension (there it is) to monsterhood, infamy and rampant deicide. Apparently we will "discover the origins of Kratos as he takes his first steps on a now legendary quest for freedom and vengeance."

Todd Pappy will take the directorial reins, becoming the sixth mortal to take up the mantle (following the likes of Jaffe, Asmussen and Barlog). He'll be participating in a live interview on Monday, April 30th, where we'll doubtlessly get some more details. Until then, have a trailer.

300: The Game?

300: the game (march to glory) has already been done for PSP.

Personally always prefered the DMC games, but I have yet to start God of War 3... might start yet another game tonight as it is sat on the side.

Strange they are doing a prequel with this successful series... prequel is synonymous with reboot which is not something you expect from a series that has been doing OK.

You're right, and I can only assume that Santa Monica are trying to avoid answering the "where the hell do we go from here?" question that's been hanging over them since the end of God Of War 3.

Still, the franchise has a lot of breathing room, and it will be interesting to see what they do with a prequel.
