I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse. Well, unless you've already bought the Godfather II game. Or if you don't like functional yet uninspiring movie tie ins. Or if you've spent a lot of money on expensive therapy to forget your mistreatment at the hands of the Mafia. Or if you don't have a tenner handy.
Okay, so there are plenty of reasons to refuse this offer... but it's probably worth a look for Xbox 360 owners. 365 Games are currently stocking The Godfather II for £10.99, which will save you £3 compared to 101CD and their numerous affiliates.
The Godfather II videogame is a dangerous proposition. After all, it's based on one of the most revered and popular films of all time... and commands a legion of fans who were poised and ready to rip it to shreds (and arrange for horse heads to end up in the developers' beds). Luckily, it turned out to be pretty handy, but with a few issues that stopped it living up to the potential offered by the rich source material.
Taking the role of the newly-promoted soldier Dominic, you'll serve Michael Corleone as he rebuilds the Mafia family and expands their sway over New York and Miami. A healthy dose of strategy, territory management and nasty brutal combat make for an authentic Godfather feel; though the lack of any genuine challenge makes Godfather II feel like a time sink rather than a bonafide Don Simulator. However, the class based multiplayer is surprisingly fun and well worth checking out.
Enjoy third-person shooters? Love the Godfather series? The Godfather II is a decent game that'll tide you over during the summer drought.
