And the Golden Poo 2013 Goes To... EA!! Again!

MattGardner |  Apr. 9, 2013 at 18:52

It's not really news (hence it being here) but EA have once again won the Golden Poo in Consumerist's Worst Company in America poll, beating out the likes of the Bank of America, Facebook, Walmart, and Ticketmaster.

Of course, AIG, BP, Halliburton, and ExxonMobile weren't even in the bracket.

Consumerist had this to say on the matter:

"When we live in an era marked by massive oil spills, faulty foreclosures by bad banks, and rampant consolidation in the airline and telecom industry, what does it say about EA’s business practices that so many people have — for the second year in a row — come out to hand it the title of Worst Company In America?"

In amongst a whole bunch of companies robbing people blind, waging false wars in overseas countries, destroying the planet, and manipulating governments we advise approaching the whole thing as a joke.

Then, again we're British and can therefore afford to laugh at our cousins across the pond. Otherwise you'd cry.

Are EA really the worst company in the US? Hell no. But they are pissing people off. There are days when the internet somehow coalesces together to demonstrate awesomeness. This is more a demonstration of stupidity and ignorance.

EA can stick their golden poo from whence it came.

"Stupidity and ignorance" aside (although I take your point) EA do deserve a kicking for their anti-consumer business model that is endemic of the way that modern gaming has gone.

I think that EA just got too complacent with their behemoth status a while back. They've refused to alter their strategy, and when finally did, they have decided to do just about everything that their consumers DON'T want. Muppets.

@DrTrouserPlank: In case you're interested, 'whence' already means 'from where', so the 'from' isn't required when using it.:)

I'm British and I voted for EA. They treat their customers like filth. There isn't a single good thing about their firm. They disgrace video games in every possible way.

You have spectacularly missed the point of the consumerist's poll. I will pray to the angels to weep for your spirit.

I know, but saying "EA can stick the poo whence it came" just sounds wrong and I assumed people wouldn't get my point.

Companies like BoA could not care less about winning an internet poll. The poll DOES affect EA because theur consumer base is online. It sends a message that this is not an acceptable way to run a business.

Isn't it saying something if the anti-consumer policies of a game company are so extreme that in an era marked by massive oil spills, faulty foreclosures by bad banks, and rampant consolidation in the airline and telecom industry it still wins WCIA?

And it's quite ironic to me that video game websites are all now talking about the frivolity and pointlessness of the multi-billion dollar games industry which the people who own said websites make their very living from.

From whence has been used in English for hundreds of years. Really the from is redundant, but it is still commonly used and acceptable. Even by highly respected writers, not just dudes on a forum.

EA did Battlefield. They did that right.

Was there a ceremony? Did Francis hand out the poo?

True, unfortunately. Soon enough, we'll have "there's two", "defiantly true", and "no pecific reason" being accepted too.:D

I voted for Umbrella, for their biological warfare experiments.

Would've voted EA if I'd thought about it though.

Should we be taking the poll super seriously? No. It's a golden poo. Let me say that again... a golden poo.

Is it mildly amusing? Absolutely. Poo is funny.

Are EA the "worst company in America"? What does that even mean?

Do EA have a number of issues to sort out, including the manner in which they treat their customers? Yes.

Will a golden poo change anything? No.

What will change things? Voting with wallets.

@SybyllAdastra: You're right in a sense. The poll and its result is a reminder of what the internet can be: often insightful, frequently ridiculous, a battlzone of passionate opinions about everything and nothing, and always, always entertaining.

@Late: Hahaha. Excellent. Acme would probably have gotten my vote. Or Cyberdyne Systems.
