Ubisoft has moved to reassure fans titles in a nebulous state of development such as I Am Alive and the much-anticipated Beyond Good and Evil 2 have not been cancelled, as reports emerged last night the publisher had terminated several internal projects. Considering the complete lack of media or press on either title, it was presumed they were the cancelled titles in question. Not so, according to Ubisoft.
"Ubisoft has taken measures to adapt its structure to major changes in the industry by reorganizing the roles and operations of its studios," explained Ubisoft in a financial press release, "which has resulted in the termination of certain projects". Immediately, rumour was rife with talk of I Am Alive and Beyond Good and Evil 2, two troubled projects which haven't seen the light of a media day in years.
However, Ubisoft was quick to lay those particular fears to rest. "Terminated projects were unannounced projects," they assured us, meaning I Am Alive and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are safe - for now. It's good news to hear development - however troubled - on both titles is chugging along, but I can't help but think one or the other might find itself on the sharp end of a termination itself one day.
