This all depends on what platform you intend to use (playstation, xobx, pc, wii, handheld and so on). I think that the Lego-series is really good, just ask him what kind he likes the most, star wars, indiana jones or pirates!

Ive played loads of games with my nephew and the Lego series always goes down well. Plus you can play together and solve things as a team. Little Big Planet is also a great one if he has a PS3.

Contrary to critical opinion, I found the Simpsons game on the 360 a heck of a lot of fun - really good if he's a fan of the show. Has a massive open-world version of Springfield to roam around in between the levels, and a proper full storyline to follow. Plus bucketloads of collectables will keep him going for ages.

The Popcap games (Peggle, Plants vs Zombies, etc) are also worth looking in to.

Aye, the Lego games are fantastic for all ages.
He'd likely also enjoy pretty much anything with Mario in.
