A handful of our peers and some selected motoring journalists have trotted off to Silverstone today for an incredibly poorly kept secret event where Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi will discuss the future of the series.
Mega Shock: The future of the series is Gran Turismo 6.
A leaked press release obtained by iAfrica has confirmed the game's existence ahead of today's event, and has pointed towards a release window of "holiday season 2013".
"GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to 'the Real Driving Simulator' as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface," reads the press statement.
"A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content."
Moreover, all of the cars and tracks from GT 5 will be retained, with additional historic vehicles, road cars, and personalisation option in-game too, bringing the total car list to 1200 at launch.
There'll be seven new locations, including Silverstone, meaning a total of 33 in GT 6 , with 71 different layouts (19 all new) upon which to race.
"It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo," Yamauchi has stated.
"Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We're pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.
We'll have more for you after the event kicks off. [via CVG]
