Another great deal here from Amazon. They are offering PC editions of GTA IV for just £9.99, and even though they are now matching the Play.com price, Amazon delivery is, on the whole, a lot faster than Play. After the £9.99 price bracket, the best deal comes in at £14.95 from Direct2Drive.
There is no doubt GTA IV is an absolutely superb game. The sheer level of detail in terms of the graphics is staggering, the car damage is highly realistic, the water looks almost real, and at long last, Rockstar delivered a GTA game where the building interiors actually looked good. However, GTA IV has a much more serious tone than its predecessors. It doesn’t have that cheeky, cartoon style veneer, and the missions are so much more brutal and dark it makes Vice City look like some kind of kid's game.
This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the old GTA games had a quirky, tongue-in-cheek style which made them endearing, whereas the dark brutality of GTA IV – I find - can get a bit sickly after a while. Plus there are few side-missions and no apaches, tanks or F16s to tear around in. After you have completed it once you have the feeling of being left in this massive city with nothing to do but wind up the police - and that quickly becomes boring. This is definitely a game you must own and play through once, but in my opinion, it will never have the longevity of something like San Andreas.
