Nintendo Hopeful For Wii U Port
Rockstar is currently concentrating on bringing Grand Theft Auto V to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but PC and Wii U versions are still "up for consideration." Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime hopes to turn "consideration" into confirmation fairly soon, however...
Asked why GTA V wasn't confirmed for other platforms by IGN, Rockstar President Dan Houser remained cagey on the issue. "Everything else is up for consideration," he said. "That's all I can give you."
"The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple," Houser added. "Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff."
Getting Grand Theft Auto V onto the Wii U will be a key concern for Nintendo Of America and Europe - and Reggie Fils-Aime remains hopeful that it will "show up" sooner or later.
"The folks [at Rockstar] have said very nice public comments about the Wii U, " Reggie told MTV.
"In the end, it is Nintendo's responsibility to have a large installed base, to have development tools that help the developers and publishers create great content, and essentially create an environment where teams like Rockstar can bring their very best content to our platform, and if we do that hopefully the very best content throughout the entire industry will show up on Wii U."
GTA V is scheduled for a "Spring 2013" launch on PS3 and XBLA, following an explosive second trailer. We reckon that Rockstar would be mad to ignore the demand for a PC version, and we'll keep you posted.
