GTA V Steals Seven Guinness World Records, Becomes Fastest Ever Selling Videogame In 24 Hours

Grand Theft Auto V is now the proud holder of no less than seven Guinness World Records, including the impressive "best-selling video game in 24 hours" and weirdly specific "most viewed trailer for an action-adventure video game."

No, not "Most Broken Online Component of 2013." Final Fantasy XIV and SimCity have been brawling over that one. Check out the details below.

GTA V has been selling like hot cakes since its September launch, so much so that hot cakes wish they could sell like GTA V. It already managed to outsell GTA IV's entire lifetime total in less than a month, and it's the fastest-selling videogame launch since... well, ever.

Here's the full list of broken records, via PlayerAttack:

  • Best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours
  • Best-selling videogame in 24 hours
  • Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion
  • Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion
  • Highest grossing videogame in 24 hours
  • Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours
  • Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame

What personal records have you managed to beat in GTA V? We gave it an editor's choice award, for the record.

What is "ever-selling", and how does one become the fastest at it? :p

Love the image of hot cakes casting envious looks at GTA:V :D

"We gave it an editor's choice award, for the record"
And seven outta ten.

@Rubisco: "ever-selling" is a very technical term used to describe hacks putting hyphens in the wrong place. :3 As for your second question: being a GTA Game helps.

Eight world records

Most times robbing the same shop keeper, only for them to still greet you with 'Hello friend!' every time you visit

You've got three submachine guns, two assault rifles, three pistols, a minigun, two grenade launchers, two shotguns, over thirty thousand rounds of ammunition, and a jerry-can of petrol all secreted about your person.
Damned right he's gonna be polite and friendly to you!
