Last Guardian Pushed Back To 2012?
Sorry, everyone, but I'm probably about to ruin your whole day. Sony and Team ICO have confirmed that their two hotly-anticipated titles, The Last Guardian and the ICO/Shadow Of The Colossus HD Remix, have been officially delayed and will miss their launch windows. We might see the HD collection before the end of the year, but it's likely that we'll have to wait until 2012 for The Last Guardian.
Full details - and a statement from Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda - below.
In a brusque statement on the Playstation Blog, SCEE product manager Phil Lynch confirmed the delays, though was unable to provide a new release date at the time of writing.
Team ICO's Fumito Ueda suggested that the delays will give them more time to improve the quality and level of challenge provided by the experience, and apologises for yet another long, cold wait.
I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011.
However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.
All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality.
I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for “The Last Guardian” for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.
So when can we expect to see these titles? Since the ICO/SOTC collection was scheduled for Spring, we might well be able to play it by the end of the year. But unfortunately, as a "winter 2011" release, it's almost certain that The Last Guardian will be pushed back into 2012.
Naturally we'll keep you posted.
