It may be an ill advised mash up of gaming genres that was very poorly received by critics but somehow Guilty Gear 2: Overture seems to get reasonable player reviews every now and then so it may just be worth a punt at this price. But probably not.
It was only released a few months ago but Game are currently selling Overture for just £7.99, a pretty amazing £21.50 less than the next best price from Power Play Direct.
Unlike the previous Guilty Gear titles, this game features 3D graphics and incorporates real time strategy elements, exploratory missions, beat 'em up sections, action and even some top down shooting. It's an odd mix that sounds interesting but one that ultimately fails.
The action takes place five years after the original Guilty Gear game and stars Sol Badguy (now looking seriously like Final Fantasy VII's Vincent Valentine), who is now hanging out with his young pal Sin. Meanwhile Ky Kiske has become king of Illyuria is panicking having discovered that the Gears have begun to disappear and his kingdom is being attacked by a strange force. It is up to Sol and Sin to come to his aid and attempt to save the day. Unless you're well clued in to the Guilty Gear universe, it's best just to accept that you probably won't have a clue what is going on a lot of the time.
Guilty Gear is not the worst game in the world but it stinks of wasted potential and is largely repetitive and dull.
