Guitar Hero: Metallica £17.99 @ HMV [Xbox 360/PS3/Wii Games]

The thundering Guitar Hero franchise shows no signs of slowing down, and celebrity tie-ins with the likes of Metallica mean we can’t see this careering bandwagon coming to a halt anytime soon. Metal heros Metallica might be something of an acquired taste, but if you’re one of their legions of fans this is the perfect addition for Guitar Hero, absorbing you into their performances and best-known hit tracks. Currently HMV will sell you a copy on any of the major consoles for just £17.99, which is the cheapest for all three at the moment. Xbox 360 and Wii owners will find this price on a par with Amazon's, but PS3 buyers can look forward to a nifty £3 saving with the nearest in-stock competitor being MyMemory at £20.95!

We have to hand it to Activision, it’s done a great job of delivering something that Metallica fans will love. With near-perfect models of the band  members – created with body scans – and motion captured signature moves, coupled with the core of their hits covering 28 from Metallica themselves and 21 from other influential artists, you’re going to be kept very busy. Tracks are sourced from the original masters so you’re also guaranteed to have the best quality versions available, as long as your TV speakers are up to the job.

Personally, it’s great to have something as frantic as Metallica to hit Guitar Hero, though some of the tracks truly are mental to play. But being able to take on the whole band with guitar, drums and vocals is the deal breaker, as long as you can fit all the plastic extras into your living room!

With a ton of extra features built into this edition you can enjoy the resurrected Battle Mode from GH3 when playing with friends, get trivia pop-up information and the usual unlockable venues, commentary, song and behind the scene footage. There are even updates to the Music Studio so you can master tracks with real James Hetfield samples. Not one for your X Factor fan but if you like your music metal, this is one not too miss.
