The Guitar Hero franchise may have come under fire for glutting the music games marketplace by continually churning out band-specific and over-regular releases... but when Metallica are willing to put their name on the box, you know you're in for some quality. Reading like a definitive Best Of, this band specific title was something of a coup for Activision, especially considering Metallica's aversion to digital music. Then again, if Lars Ulrich can line his pockets further, there are far worse ways to do so.
The Game Collection are currently selling the game for £9.95, £3 cheaper than the next price over at ShopTo.
As is the case with all of these single-act games, if you love the band, you'll love the game. Career Mode is a little bit limp, but those of you who found GH3 too hard will be pleased to know that it's been balanced out a little more here. Although the story is pretty poor, progression is now dependent upon stars rather than completing every song meaning that you can skip the odd song if you wish.
Although perhaps not worth full price, boasting fewer tracks than World Tour did and still without the option of importing songs (something Neversoft finally fixed with GH5), this is well worth a look for under a tenner thanks to some truly excellent presentation, wonderful mo-cap work and an impressive array of tunes that will delight any mosh-pit veteran.
