Half-Life 3 is happening, Left 4 Dead 3 "looks great" says Counter-Strike co-creator

Oh lorks, here we go again.

Counter-Strike co-creator Minh "Gooseman" Le, who previously worked for Valve but since departed to make the fiercely mediocre shooter Tactical Intervention, let some exciting nuggets of info drop during an interview with goRGNtv.

"There’s like a laser sight on my head right now," Le quipped when asked about Half-Life 3. "I don’t think I can talk about that, to be honest, but... I think it’s kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on. And so if I were to say that yeah, I’ve seen some images, like some concept art of it, that wouldn’t be big news to be honest.

"But yeah, I mean like I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn’t surprise anyone if I said they’re doing it, they’re working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I’d say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3.

"Somebody’s knocking on my door right now! Hopefully that doesn’t get out. It seems like old news by now, I think everybody knows it’s being worked on.".

Oh dear. Having been rumoured then denied at regular intervals over the best part of the decade, the vaporous Half-Life 3 is arguably too risky to ever release. But like the masochistic suckers we are, we'll yet again allow a report to very slightly raise our hopes before dashing them expertly.

However, in arguably more exciting news, Le confirms that Left 4 Dead 3 is in full production and "looks great."

“I saw it, it looks great. I was really excited when I saw that, I was like ‘wow, this looks great’. Because I really enjoyed Left 4 Dead, it was just one of those games that really just changed the industry. I think at the time there wasn’t many good co-op games, so yeah, this is a great co-op game.”

Now we're talking. Though Turtle Rock's Evolve looks set to satisfy our asymmetrical multiplayer cravings, Left 4 Dead's co-op is sublime. Let's have it.

(Bearing in mind I've not listened to the interview...)

He mentioned HL3 and L4D3 but never mentioned Portal 3, then?

As much as I'd love Half Life 3 (I never really got into Left 4 Dead), I'd personally be more excited about a new Portal game.

I'd be more interested in L4D (or Portal for that matter) than Half Life. I'm seemingly one of very few people who doesn't rate Half Life that much, so watching people going crazy over the prospect of a HL3 is just hilarious for me.

The level of obsession over that game is just ridiculous. Valve would be better off never releasing it unless they genuinely made the best game ever, which is highly unlikely.

Left for Dead for me, so long as it's more akin to L4D1 than L4D2.

There was something about L4D2 that just didn't work (for me). Plenty of other people disagree, but I found LD41 much more playable.

I think I can see where you're coming from. L4D2 had more guns and enemies and stuff but the first one had a better atmosphere and better characters imo.

I have faith that we'll see Half-Life 3 someday and it will be awesome!

I'm probably being wildly optimistic but given that I haven't lost hope that I'll one day see Commander Keen's 'The Universe is Toast!' my HL3 dream seems actually quite obtainable! :D

Ahhhh...nice to see someone who feels the same :)
