Half-Life 3 Set For A VGAs Reveal?

First Shirts, Now Leaked Achievements

So, first a Valve employee is spotted casually wearing a shirt sporting a Half-Life 3 logo. So blase, in fact, was Valve's employee that he allowed a picture to be taken to circulate the web. Naturally, the internet was set alight with rumours of a Half-Life 3 announcement being imminent. And now we've more news to stoke the flames, with a list of Steam achievements for Half-Life 3 ostensibly leaking online, cluing us in as to what we can expect from Valve's much-anticipated title. But is this the real deal, or simple hoax?

We've no idea whether the list of achievements is indeed real or not. Of course, it would be very easy for someone with knowledge of Valve and Half-Life and rudimentary skills with Photoshop and the like to rough up a little faux achievements list. But then we're optimistic folks here at Dealspwn, and we've been waiting for Half-Life 3 for years now, so excuse us if we treat this with a little more importance.

The list of achievements that appear in the cropped screengrab is as follows:

  • The Eagle Has Landed: Escape the crash scene
  • A Perfect Circle: Save Dr Mossman
  • Iced Earth: Locate the entrance to the icy cave
  • Niflheim: Kill the Hrimthurs
  • Cliffhanger: Survive the cliff battle

Appropriately vague, with no real plot-points or clues as to what the story entails other than characters names and mysterious set-pieces with no context. It's convincing stuff, I must admit. The Niflheim achievement, for instance, plucks from Norse mythology, with Hrimthurs actual giants from the old tales native to the land of Niflheim.

We'll have a much better idea as to whether this is real or just another fake we've got excited about on Saturday evening, when the VGAs roll around. [Stick Skills]

It's the kind of thing Valve do, so wouldn't be too surprised. They might tie it into the Xmas sale as well if they were starting to leak info, like they did with Portal 2.

Fingers crossed! ;)

I half expect Valve to go: "We're releasing it tomorrow on Steam" and the internet to literally explode.

Considering the screen shot has "Local INTRAnet" at the bottom, I call this fake.
