Halo 3: ODST £26.76 (Using Voucher Code) @ The Hut [Xbox 360 Game]

Fans who expected the Halo 3 expansion, ODST, to retail for a cut-price can now rest easy, as The Hut are offering Halo 3: ODST on pre-order for just £26.76, if you input the voucher code HUT10!

According to a price-comparison, The Hut’s deal for the Halo 3: ODST pre-order is the cheapest around, with a three-pound saving! Halo 3: ODST is essentially two games in one package. On one disc is the ODST campaign, a story set in the plot-twilight between Halo 2 and 3, focusing on the plight of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper marooned in Covenant-occupied New Mombasa. The second disc features the entire roster of Halo 3 multiplayer maps; an excellent addition considering the game itself earned an impressive 94/100 on MetaCritic.

Developers Bungie have released considerable information on the ODST campaign. If you cast your mind to the middle of Halo 2, when the Master Chief, aboard the UNSC vessel, In Amber Clad, departed from Earth to another Halo ring following a slip-space rupture above New Mombasa. The Covenant soon claimed the city, but the UNSC decided, in the absence of the Master Chief, to deploy their elite paratroopers, the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, who plummet from orbit into hostile territory.

In typical Bungie fashion, you command a silent hero, the Rookie, an ODST stranded from the rest of his squad when the slip-space rupture occurred. Beacons from his squad scattered across New Mombasa activate flash-back sequences, where you follow one of the Rookie’s four teammates and discover their respective fates.

ODST is more than a traditional expansion, considering to completely overhauls much of the Halo gameplay staples. The Master Chief’s strength, speed and replenishing health are gone, as the Rookie is a mere mortal, capable of only surviving a few encounters and unable to dual-wield or leap great distances. He can, however, utilise ODST-specific technology, such as the VISR mode, an image scan for low-light situations. He’s also aided in his plight by New Mombasa’s A.I. system, the Superintendent, although a few literal screws may be loose!
