We're well-versed in Halo lore here at Dealspwn - thanks, Eric Nylund - and the last we checked, MJOLNIR VI armor can't operate in deep space. And yet, in the Halo 4 announcement teaser that capped off Microsoft's E3 2011 conference, John-117's suit reveals concealed zero-gravity thrusters as he flees Forward Unto Dawn's free-falling half. Is this a new feature 343 is shoehorning into the franchise, retconning Master Chief's suit? Or has he been upgraded? It would appear so, according to 343's Frank O'Connor.
"There's some story behind his new look," O'Connor revealed to OXM. Along with his new thrusters, Master Chief's codpiece has gone missing, his gauntlets appear slimmed down, and the entire look of the suit itself is sleeker. Almost as if its a new design entirely. "There are specific reasons why he looks the way he does and why some of his behaviours have changed. We'll see in good time".
It'll be quite a while until 343 whisk off the covers on Halo 4. Gears 3 is Microsoft's big hitter this year; they won't dilute its launch by marketing the new Halo trilogy just yet. However, Halo Fest hits this summer, and I'd be surprised if 343 or Microsoft didn't at least tease fans with something to expect from Halo 4. [OXM]
