Say hello to Agent Locke.
The identity of Halo 5's 'mystery Spartan' (pictured above sporting a stylish azure visor) has been a hot topic for debate after 343 Industries confirmed that he was a new character, not Sarah Palmer or a Cortana avatar. They've finally spilled the beans to Polygon, revealing that his name is Agent Locke and that he'll "play a lead role" in Guardians.
We'll get to know him in the Master Chief Collection later this year, which was announced during Microsoft's E3 presentation. Finding terminals in Halo 2 unlocks animated backstory cutscenes featuring The Arbiter and Locke as they dissect the Master Chief's actions, while the bundled Halo: Nightfall miniseries stars Locke as the main character.
"We're using Halo Nightfall to basically tell his backstory and tell his origin story," 343's Bonnie Ross explained. "You don't have to watch this, but knowing this will kind of tee you up for all the new things that are going on in Halo 5: Guardians. The goal there is to drop you right off at the doorstep."
Nightfall is still in production, with location shooting wrapped up in Ireland and moving to Iceland. We'll learn more details during San Diego Comic Con.
In case you missed it, here's the Master Chief Collection reveal trailer, which will deliver revamped versions of Halo 1-4 with 100+ multiplayer maps and custom campaign playlists this Christmas.
