The mysterious Halo: Spartan Assault has broken cover, and it might not be quite what you expected. As a top-down twinstick shooter for Windows 8 devices, this Robotron-inspired experience will chronicle Sarah Palmer's rise through the ranks, bridging the story gap between Halo 3 and 4 from a different perspective.
Details and screenshots, as ever, after the break.
Halo: Spartan Assault will be available through the Windows 8 app store, and playable on any Windows 8 device (meaning PCs, Windows 8 phones, Surface tabs and third party Win8 tablets). Sporting both touch-optimised gameplay and mouse/keyboard support, you'll wield some familiar Halo weaponry and hijack Covenant vehicles to advantage. A robust customisation system will allow players to switch loadouts, equip abilities and even unlock some items in Halo 4.
Considering that it's developed by Vanguard Games, the outfit behind the brilliant Gatling Gears, it's probably going to be worth a pop. It's out in July for $6.99 (UK pricing TBA).
