Heavy Rain offers a completely different video game experience and while it is certainly not a title that everyone will love, it is almost unanimously agreed that the game represents an unique and striking achievement.
Even now it is very unusual to see Heavy Rain for much less than £30 and Shop To's price of £26.85 undercuts the next best (£29.85 from Simply Games)
The game centres around the mystery of the Origami Killer, who drowns his victims in rain water, and four people, each of whom's tale is somehow embroiled with that of the murderer. Your actions have a direct effect on the narrative, with the story adapting around you but however you play, you can be sure it will be poignant and thought provoking.
As a game, Heavy Rain is a curious thing, a cross genre mix of point and click adventure, mini-game collection and interactive thriller movie. Somehow this strange concoction works and produces an unforgettable experience that has the power to genuinely move you emotionally and that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled. The much maligned Quick Time Events are handled well and fit in perfectly with the action.
It's a relatively short title but somehow still feels like an epic and the fact that every decision can be handled in multiple ways ensures that there is plenty of replay value on offer. Heavy Rain won't be too everyone's taste but you're doing yourself a disservice if you fail to at least give it a chance.
