Hitman 5: Absolution Screens Dive In, Showcases New Glacier Engine Tech

We're big fans of Hitman here at Dealspwn, so news of the fifth edition - Absolution - was greeted with so much merriment and cheer we had to restrain ourselves from giving each other a buzz-cut in honor of the announcement. And now we have a few new screenshots to pore over and cheer about - or lament, depending your emotional disposition this morning.

Showing Agent 47 in trademark black suit leaping from the parapet of an industrial-looking building amidst a furious rainstorm, the first screenshot of Hitman 5: Absolution gives us our first glimpse of IO Interactive's new 'Glacier 2' engine, the successor to their original tech which powered the likes of Kane and Lynch, now rebuilt and bolstered with cutting-edge features.

Not much can be gleaned from this first screenshot, other than the astonishing revelation that people will be trying to kill you at some point in the story. We can see three figures on the ledge 47 has leaped off so gracefully, all wielding flashlights and - presumably - weapons, with the farthest to the right appearing to be a woman. The shot has a moody, atmospheric vibe, and the lighting appears to be very impressive with convincing motion-blur in effect, too.

The first screenshot is also accompanied by the first chunk of concept art, which is a bit underwhelming, to be honest. A sprawling metropolis under a nights sky, blanketed in rain, lit up by countless windows and street-lights. I can't quite tell where exactly this takes place, as it could be a real-life city or a fictional location created for the game. What say you, eagle-eyed Dealspwners? Notice anything familiar?
