Intended For Next-Gen Platforms
We're all pretty hot under the collar for the upcoming Hitman: Absolution here at Dealspwn right now, although our senior editor Matt Gardner has refused requests for an office-wide buzz cut. However, while IO Interactive have Agent 47 primed for release next year, it appears publisher Square Enix have bigger plans in store for the smooth-headed assassin, concerning a new studio and an entirely new platform.
Square's new Montreal studio opens early next year, providing 150 jobs for the already burgeoning Canadian games industry. It's mandate; to build AAA titles for "tomorrow's audience", starting off with an all new Hitman title. Now this statement had the online community all aflutter, seemingly confirming a next-generation platform, and according to a trusted Eurogamer source, this is indeed true.
In related news, fellow Square outfit located in Canada, Eidos Montreal, have had their numbers boosted by an influx of over a 100 new staff, who'll be delegated to work on the already announced Thief 4, future Deus Ex titles and a mystery "AAA project". With all this chatter of the next-generation beginning in 2012 with the Wii U and possibly even Microsoft's successor to the Xbox 360, we could be in for a hell of a lot of juicy announcements in the near future.
