Dennaton Games are working on a follow-up to the ferociously addictive Hotline Miami, sporting a new setting and some "sweet tunes."
As reported by Joystiq, Hotline Miami 2 was originally just supposed to be a DLC pack for the original game until it blew out of all proportions. Dennaton's Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedinill suggest that it will be the "grand finale" to the franchise, with a new protagonist exploring some of the quieter years of the early 90s.
Hotline Miami's protagonist (referred to coloquially as 'Jacket' by fans) will appear as a cameo, and some parallel storylines will be explored.
According to Söderström, Hotline Miami 2 is currently being developed for PC, but can get cracking on ports "right away" once they've concluded talks with Sony. It could well release on PC and Vita simultaneously. Devolver Digital will once again assume publishing duties.
"Dennaton Games' murder puzzler is as compelling and exhilarating as it is brutally raw," I wrote in our 9/10 Hotline Miami review, "resulting in a game that works brilliantly despite having little right to do so on paper."
"Love it or hate it, you won't soon forget Hotline Miami."
