Too Human is an action RPG from Canadian developer Silicone Knights, released after 10 years stuck in game development purgatory. Sadly a decade maturing didn't add up to a fine and classy bouquet, instead the result is a thoroughly mediocre affair. However, for an incredibly cheap game price of £3.99, it's a far more attractive prospect and may be worth a punt.
Play's awesome under-£4 price tag is less than half that of the next best price of £7.99 from Amazon (who also have a 1-2 week wait before dispatch).
Too Human is a "re-imagining" of Norse mythology, taking place in a future in which the Aesir (the Norse Gods) are cybernetically enhanced humans, sworn to protect humankind from Loki and his machine army. You get to jump into the shoes of Baldur, a God whose reduced cybernetic qualities make him "too human". Unfortunately while this all sounds rather intriguing, the story doesn't really take off properly until the very end. Until then it's all a bit stodgy and messy and its hard to get into a happy gaming groove.
Thankfully, the combat can be pretty fun, offering a sense of power rarely found in the genre. There's a wealth of armour and weapons to collect and tinker around with and it's easy to customise your character's skills and abilities to your liking. The graphics aren't great by today's standards but hold up well enough against its contemporaries.
It's certainly not a great game but at this price it's suddenly a very attractive prospect and by no means a bad buy.
