Valentine's Day is a beautiful thing. Whether you're heading out on a first date, celebrating years of happiness or just looking for that special someone, it's a day of careful planning, sweeping romantic gestures and love in its
most ridiculously expensive purest form.
So stuff all that nonsense, because PlayStation Plus multiplayer is free for all this weekend and there's plenty of games to play.*
More than likely your significant other or date will be totally up for this plan. Gaming is awesome. We all know it. But just in case they need a little extra convincing, here are some great games that will bring you closer together and make for a truly special Valentine's Day. At least, that's what you'll tell them, seeing as you clearly haven't sorted anything out yet and there's only one day to go. It'll be our little secret.
*Dealspwn accepts no responsibility for any failed relationships as a result of this course of action. Dealspwn does not guarantee that any bacon will be saved. Who needs 'em? They weren't good enough for you anyway. We love ya.
Dying Light? Seriously?!
A hectic and terrifying zombie-infested sandbox might not seem like a great mood-setter, but you'd be surprised. Not only will the cooperative exploration and combat bring you closer together in ways you'd never thought possible, but you'll also need to snuggle into safe zones for warmth and shelter. Who knows what might happen... okay, lookit, guys and girls, this is the best excuse we can come up with.
It'll work. Trust us.
Ah, now Portal 2 is altogether more wholesome. Adorable robots? Check. Close cooperation that makes you work together and cherish each other? Check.
Cake? Erm, don't count on it.
Spin The Bottle: Bumpie's Party
Oh yes, Spin The Bottle. This bizarre Wii U eShop game is all about losing your inhibitions and getting a little crazy. Perfect as an icebreaker, or as a way for even a longtime couple to have fun.
Plus, hey, all the phallic imagery might lead to something at a pinch.
Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons
An emotional story is always a good bet for Valentines day, and Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons massively delivers on that front.
But... isn't it singleplayer-only?
Not quite. See, each stick independently moves one of the two brothers, meaning that both of you can control a character by holding onto the same controller.
Perfect when both of you clearly want to get a little closer, but need an excuse.
NEVER Mario Kart 8!
You'd think that Mario Kart 8 would be a great Valentines game, but here's a pro tip: it will only end in disaster! One blue shell is all it takes to burn a relationship to the ground.
I've seen it happen. 5 years together, one Rainbow Road short cut later and I was being lamped about the face and neck with an N64 controller.
No, seriously. With a little practice you'll be able to create a date more lavish and incredible than anything in your budget -- yes, even your night out in Crewkerne.
You can still get an official Rock Candy Green Xbox One Controller + Minecraft for XO for £26.99. That way you'll be sorted for controllers!
The Secret World
My favourite MMORPG of all time happens to be holding a little Valentines event, including new gift bags that you can pick up with in-game currency.
A great excuse to craft... some love... why yes I am trying and failing to make an H.P. Lovecraft pun here. I've set it up for you, go ahead and finish off.
When all else fails, Lord Shaxx' deeply sexy voice will instantly get you in the mood. "They've captured zone A, guardian. And my heart."
Ooh, Lennie James. Your sweet sounds soothe my mind and soul. Mmmyeessssssss [that's enough, Jon - Ed... oh wait, I am the Ed now. It's Edception!]
Either way, Destiny is also great fun in multiplayer while it lasts and can be yours for only £19.72 on PS4 and Xbox One.
