Insomniac, creators of such PlayStation luminaries as the Ratchet and Clank and the Resistance series, announced yesterday at a community event in LA that they will not be developing games for Sony's new handheld in-house, preferring to focus instead on the HD home consoles.
Senior Community Manager James Stevenson told fans that the studio is 'totally focused on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360' right now, with Resistance 3, Ratchet and Clank All 4 One and an as-yet-undisclosed multiplatform title for EA all in development at the moment.
The studio will still be providing support to Sony, but will be outsourcing all development for the NGP. A Resistance game has already been confirmed for the new platform, but it is being developed by Nihilistic Software. It will not mark the first time by any means that Insomniac have outsourced development on their key franchises for handheld ports, with Sony Bend and High Impact Games having performed in this capacity previously.
