If it hasn’t already incurred premature arthritis on gamers who jabbed away furiously at the arcade version in ’83, New International Track and Field can be bought from The Hut for only £6.73!
In a race around the price-comparison track, The Hut’s deal for Track and Field lapped its competitors with a three-pound gap! New International Track and Field impressed critics enough to earn a respectable 73/100 on MetaCritic, with IGN hailing it as the best remake of a classic franchise, thus far, awarding it the Best Sports Game on the DS for 2008.
In Track and Field, players compete in Olympic sporting events, such as the 100 metre Sprint, Long Jump and Shot Put. You can either participate in the career mode, or practise your skills in a training dojo. The series has been updated to accommodate online functionality, with up to four players able to compete via Wi-Fi Connect.
The original Track and Field relied upon how fast players could tap or alternate between buttons, resulting in a few sore thumbs and fingertips! The DS version, however, forces players to move the stylus in tandem with their event to accumulate rhythm. You can even bellow into the recessed microphone to provide encouragement, or just mutter darkly at them if they lose!
This remake even adds several Konami favourites to the roster, such as hyperactive amphibian Frogger, gravelly-voiced spy Solid Snake, and vampire slayer Simon Belmont. So if the image of frogs racing medieval assassins whilst a chain-smoking clone staggers behind them excites you, don’t hesitate in picking up this deal!
