Iron Brigade, the artist formerly known as Trenched, still hasn't released in Europe after the catastrophic copyright infringment claims from a Portuguese board game manufacturer. However, Double Fine now believe that they are "really close" to being able to bring their action/tower defence/mech combat hybrid to the European Xbox Live marketplace, blaming the delay on insane bureaucracy. We've got the full details below.
Speaking to XBLAFans, Double Fine director Brad Muir was unable to provide precise dates but was keen to stress that the breakthrough is close at hand. Apparently renaming and certifying a title requires a lot of red tape.
I wish we could announce dates. We’re getting really close to having it clear certification through Microsoft and it’s kind of unfortunate because changing the name of a game you’ve already shipped in half the world is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
There are so many different departments that it has to cruise through at Microsoft in order to enable the name change. It’s pretty ridiculous. They sent us the preliminary plan on how that [was] going to work and I didn’t even know there were that many divisions.
We're looking forward to Iron Brigade, but with plenty of new tower defence hybrids now on the market (notably Orcs Must Die! and Dungeon Defenders), much of the potential impact might well be lost.
