Put succinctly, the original Kane & Lynch: Dead Men was terrible. Whilst the story was excellent, the core gameplay was absolutely broken... but IO are doing their best to repent for their sins with the sequel. Kane & Lynch 2 is looking sharper, slicker and more stylish- and there's a growing amount of excitement in the gaming community thanks to a massive Square Enix hype offensive. If you're looking to buy in at a good price, Coolshop are currently taking preorders at £32.99. This will save you £2 compared to ShopTo and is a great price for a new game. Prices are bound to rise in the week before the 20th August release date- so if you want to take advantage of a preorder deal, I'd recommend doing it soon.
I was lucky enough to get some hands-on action with Kane & Lynch 2 several weeks ago... and you can what I thought of the multiplayer and singleplayer aspects by clicking out. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed the new improved cover system and Fragile Alliance multiplayer game mode, I'm still not sold on the overall tone and style of the game. Kane and Lynch are still the immature, unpleasant, pottymouthed cutouts designed to sucker in the lowest common denominator- and the new art style is a seriously acquired taste that caused me to acquire nausea on more than one occasion.
On the other hand, it's shaping up to be a fun and solid shooter that'll knock the spots off the original... and, in many ways, redeem it. The demo's now freely available on Xbox Live Marketplace- so I heartily recommend checking it out and making your own mind up.
