In taking over the role of Sony Corporation President and CEO from Howard Stringer back last year, follwing PSNgate, Kaz Hirai was wearing an awful lot of hats. Now, it would seem, he's stepped away from his position as the Sony Computer Entertainment board's representative director and chairman, potentially paving the way for a successor.
Hirai will still serve as a part-time member of the board and will no doubt make the final calls when it comes to the Playstation division, but expect him to be rather less involved than he has been in the past. Stringer has left his part-time board position, with SCE Japan president Hiroshi Kawano among the new executives appointed to the board. [via GII]
