Mighty No. 9 Funded After Just One Day

Keiji Inafune, him of Mega Man and Dead Rising fame, has taken to Kickstarter to crowd-fund a spiritual successor to his beloved platforming franchise. Mighty No. 9 is described as "an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing."

It's also almost certainly going to enter production, seeing as over $870,000 of its $900,000 target has been raised in the first 24 hours. Details below.

UPDATE: It's now completely funded. Not bad for a single day.

Inafune, alongside several veteran Japanese designers, are crafting Mighty No. 9 for PC platforms, taking aim at a 2015 release. Players will assume the role of Beck, who is... basically Mega Man right down to the arm cannon... and embark on a platforming adventure. As you'd expect, Beck can explore levels in any order and absorb the powers of slain bosses.

Beck's body is capable of transforming into a variety of new forms, such as massive magnets to climb up walls or a tank-like torso to push objects around the scenery. The details are still in pre-production, but expect a versatile arsenal of abilities.

Mighty No. 9 has already been met with enthusiastic support. Will you get involved as well?
