Kinect PlayFit Will Let Us Keep Track Of Burned Calories

Free Kinect App Launches This Week On Xbox Live

A free Xbox Live app will automatically tally the amount of calories gamers have burned in Dance Central 2, Kinect Star Wars, Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 and other Kinect-enabled titles - unlocking avatar rewards and achievements as we cumulatively increase our score. Social features and daily challenges will goad players into getting involved, and of course, there's a dynamic advert in the bottom-right corner. According to Major Nelson, Kinect PlayFit is already available Stateside, and will likely arrive in Europe tomorrow as part of the Xbox Live content update.

Will achievements and avatar stuff encourage us to keep fit? We're not sure, but either way, it's nice to see Kinect owners getting some free stuff, and given another reason to dust off the powerful yet under-used peripheral.

I swear you just used the word 'gamers' in an article relating to some keep-fit product. Surely this is against some as-yet-unwritten religion?

And, yes, I called you Shirley.:D

@Quietus: Heh. :) I'd argue that the term 'gamer' is appropriate since you do have to play titles like Dance Central 2 etc to use the app, and besides, what's in a label?

But yes, in a perfect world, I would probably be publicly flogged.

The cheek! Don't you realise that we're responsible for violent children creating half of the world's woes?;)
