As expected, Square Enix are giving Kingdom Hearts II the HD treatment, bringing the inexplicable yet brilliant crossover epic to PS3 next year. Better yet, the rebuilt package includes the utterly exceptional PSP prequel Birth By Sleep, which is easily one of the strongest and most enjoyable games in the entire series.
Heralded by the PlayStation Blog, the (idiotically-titled) Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX contains the following:
- Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix — previously on PS2 and exclusive to Japan
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix — previously on PSP and exclusive to Japan
- Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (HD remastered cinematics)
Since Kingdom Hearts II and Birth By Sleep are probably the best titles in the franchise, this is an exciting proposition, while fans who don't own a PSP can now enjoy the prequel with fully-rebuilt HD graphics. It's all happening in 2014, presumably ahead of Kingdom Hearts III making its long-overdue appearance on PS4 and Xbox One.
