AGD Interactive has released their painstakingly-remastered version of King's Quest III, which is widely regarded as being a classic (if aggravatingly difficult) adventure. You can expect hand-drawn artwork and some original puzzles in this new edition... but most importantly, it's free.
King's Quest III Redux features is an refreshing new take on the original game; supplementing the familiar gameplay with a new lavish sprite-based storybook art style, an original musical score and a little C-list (?) Hollywood voice talent. It's probably still fairly aggravating in parts, mind. AGD Interactive's Chris Warren feels sad that the franchise has now run its course, though now plans to shift studio focus away from remakes and towards original IPs.
We're very excited to finally release this game after developing it in secret for so long. We've poured a lot of love into this particular project and I think King's Quest fans will be very pleased at the results, even though reaching the end may be bittersweet. Now we plan to focus on new, original games that retain the same retro charm that made the Sierra games so enduring.
You can grab the download from AGD Interactive's official site- and since it's free, you have no reason not to.
AGD Interactive and sister company Himalaya Studios has also dropped some details about their newest project. Mage's Initiation: Reign Of The Elements is set to be a hybrid between traditional adventure games and fantasy RPGs, which sounds absolutely fine by us. You can grab more details here.
