Kojima: Product Placement; 1 Console to Rule them All

From Kojima's Doritos to Suda51's Diarrhea - News Roundup 8th April 2010

Hideo Kojima loves to gush about his upcoming projects, and at the Tokyo Peace Walker press event he just couldn't keep his mouth shut. Here's what we learned...

Peace Walker is going to feature loads of product placement. Snake's iPod was pretty flagrant in MGS4, but Peace Walker will feature bags of Doritos, Axe Deodorant (Lynx to us Brits) and Mountain Dew as recovery items; as well as loads of real-world magazines, iPods and walkmen as useful equipment.

Monster Hunter Mode has been confirmed. Yesterday's bizarre annoucenement of a Monster Hunter mode has been verified- and actually, it's probably going to be pretty awesome. As extras go, a full multiplayer-enabled game mode isn't bad.

Kojima believes in the "One Console Future." Apparently, Hideo has subscribed to the philosophy of cloud computing uber alles.

"I think we're heading into a future without platforms, where cloud computing that allows gamers to play the same games in the living room that they do in the home. How do you take a game like Metal Gear Solid into that future? Making Peace Walker on a portable platform like the PSP was a way to experiment with that."

Maybe OnLive will deliver the cloud platform of Kojima's dreams? Though I'm not quite sure what he means by playing the same games in the living room as I do in my home... I think he's forgetting that most of us aren't millionaire game designers with more than one house. [1UP, VG247]

3.21 Causing Technical Problems

From Kojima's Doritos to Suda51's Diarrhea - News Roundup 8th April 2010

According to the official Sony forums, a number of PS3 owners have been experiencing a range of technical problems caused by the latest controversial system update.  Apparently, these hiccups range from disc read errors, blank splash screens, denial of service for PSN Marketplace and even a couple of Yellow Lights of Death.

The YLOD's timing is clearly an unfortunate coincidence (considering that it's caused by a hardware issue), but the rest of the problems seem legit at the moment. Sony have yet to comment on the situation at the time of writing- so let us know if you've been experiencing any trouble after installing 3.21! [Playstation Forums]

Suda51 on NMH 3 and Diarrhea

From Kojima's Doritos to Suda51's Diarrhea - News Roundup 8th April 2010

Suda51, the deranged artistic genius behind Killer7 and No More Heroes has spoken out on his development routine...which apparently takes place on the can. In a recent interview with the Guardian, he likened game development to bowel movements.

"With No More Heroes 1, the idea came when I was literally sitting on the toilet. It was the result of trying to empty my bowels, if you like. With No More Heroes 2, I tried to get rid of whatever was left over in my bowels, and luckily it all happened. What we are hoping to do now with No More Heroes 3 is probably to digest everything we eat, and then purge absolutely everything in our guts, just like diarrhea!"

You know what, just go watch it. Looks like NMH 3 will be pretty special when Suda51 gets round to squeezing it out... [The Guardian]

Update 3.21 was a little bit rushed though to be honest in the face of GeoHot's hack (although he's gone and made a breakthrough with FW3.21 as well now), it was always going to be a little buggy. No new features and no enhancements suggested more of a stopgap update really.
