7sixty and Qooc Soft have announced that Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior’s Rise is heading to Xbox LIVE Arcade early this year. Taking its inspiration from ancient Chinese tales of revenge and retribution then adding a dash of over-the-top martial arts movies, Kung Fu Strike promises to be a fast-paced beat-‘em-up where the player can seamlessly blend powerful punches, high kicks and perfectly timed blocks to pull off combos that devastate hordes of enemies.
We've got more details below, including info about the "fluid combat system that turns brawling into an art form… OF PAIN." Apparently.
Kung Fu Strike tells the story of General Loh, a warrior struggling to avenge his father’s death while around him ancient China spirals out of control due to warring factions that threaten to split the country apart. It's a familiar premise, but one that should allow Qooc Soft to explore classic inspiration from countless seminal martial arts movies.
Alongside a tight combat system and art style inspired by period Chinese calligraphy, Kung Fu Strike will featre unlockable techniques, support characters that can be called in to help when your fists fail you and special equipment that can potentially turn the tide of battle. Local two-player co-op and versus modes will also be on hand, though online multiplayer doesn't seem to be on the cards. To be honest, games like this work much better when you can physically dig your opponent in the ribs after a cheap combo.
Kung Fu Strike is slated for "early this year," so we'll keep an eye on things.
