LA Noire drops tomorrow, but I don't doubt some of you in the Dealspwn audience are waving your pre-release copies in the air as if you just don't care. It's not all lollipops and sunshine, however, as reports continue to mount that LA Noire causes the PS3 and Xbox 360 to overheat, resulting abrupt crashes or freezing. Rockstar has moved swiftly to reassure fans the issue isn't widespread, but if you are afflicted, there are several solutions to consider.
First off, Rockstar advise you either delete the game data from the PS3's Game Data Utility menu, ensuring you don't remove the saved game data, or simply clear the cache on your Xbox 360. Then, create a new temporary profile on the PS3 or a Silver membership profile on the 360, check your saved game is intact, and then boot up the game. Rockstar recommend you do this while not connected to the Playstation Network - as if that's much of a problem.
If that doesn't work, they advise you check the LA Noire disc for scratches, dust, dirt or other damage. Give it a good rubbing with a microfiber cloth, too. Smooth, circular motions, people. It might not be the disc, though. Ensure your other games work on your console, otherwise it might be a problem with the hardware itself, rather than the game. Furthermore, try the disc in another console to make sure.
And, lastly, if none of the obvious help, click the link below and head to the 'Submit a Request' tab, where you can specify what console you have - be it a slimline PS3 or Xbox 360 Elite, for example - and make sure to explain what steps you take in-game before a crash occurs. Rockstar maintain this is an isolated issue, so I wouldn't be scared off. [Rockstar Games]
