Left 4 Dead 2 £13.39 @ Steam [PC Games]Unlike the more traditional take on the zombie apocalypse offered up by the original Left for Dead, Left for Dead 2 focuses more on the bright side of things (which can’t help but remind you of the movie Dawn of the Dead). Un-dead cannibals might be roaming the streets in their thousands, but it’s amazing how amusing the whole situation can seems as you and a few friends plough through the horde wielding cricket bats, guitars, frying pans and chainsaws.

So if you haven’t yet treated yourself to some Left for Dead lunacy, the second instalment is now going for just £13.39 on Steam. This is an especially attractive offer as the next best deal comes in at £21.24 from Tesco entertainment, and LFD developers Valve have just released some free DLC in the form of a brand new campaign game called The Passing - which is free for all those who own LFD2 on the PC.

The fact that little has changed in terms of core gameplay since the original Left for Dead has led some to describe this sequel as more of an add-on. However, the sheer amount of content on offer is huge in comparison to the original. Left for Dead 2 provides five new campaigns which offer a diverse range of settings - from urban city centres to mosquito-infested-South-American-swamps – with impressive and highly immersive level designs.

New specially-infected make team work all the more essential. If you find yourself caught by an on rushing charger, you’ll be endlessly pounded until one of your teammates comes to your rescue. And nothing will have pounding your keyboard in fury like a Jockey who’s just steered you and into a pool of burning acid and out of your teammate’s line of sight.

Overall, Left for Dead 2 gives you everything you found yourself yearning whilst playing the original: loads more weapons, a more diverse range of levels, and improved team AI. Of course nothing compares to playing with a few friends online and this is something which every gamer should experience (not least because Left for Dead is a game which never fails to give you the impression you really are fighting for survival).
