The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass £16.49 @ Cool Shop [DS Games]

Link's fourteenth adventure and his first on the DS was named IGN's DS Game of the Year (2007) and was both a critical and commercial success, for good reason.

Cool Shop are currently selling The Phantom Hourglass for £16.49, which undercuts Shop To's second place price of £19.95 by £3.50.

The Phantom Hourglass is a direct sequel to 2003's Wind Waker for the Gamecube and follows Link's quest to save Tetra from the evil Bellum with the reluctant assistance from the cowardly Linebeck and his ship the S.S. Linebeck.

Like its direct predecessor, the game features bright cel shaded graphics. This style change was a somewhat controversial move when Wind Waker was first released but these cheery, cartoon-esque graphics are brilliantly suited to the DS and The Phantom Hourglass is a lovely looking game. At the time of its release it was an ambitious and innovative undertaking, being entirely touch screen controlled and making unprecedented, impressive use of both screens. Thankfully these controls are perfectly implemented and, as usual for a Zelda title, everything just works effortlessly.

As usual there are plenty of entertaining puzzles to get your head around, some tailored perfectly to the console's unique traits and the boss battles are excellent.

For seasoned Zelda fans The Phantom Hourglass can at times feel a little too easy and even, gasp, casual which is undoubtedly a shame but it oozes the customary Zelda quality and is just as exciting, fun and captivating as any other title in the series and a must have for any DS owner.
