Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, even, god help us, Harry Potter – they’ve all had their own Lego style spin off. Now it’s the turn of Rockband to be repackaged in an attempt to milk shed loads more cash out of a top selling franchise and served up to hordes of spoilt children like a McDonald’s Happy Meal (or at least, that’s what the cynics would have us believe anyway).
Perhaps there is an element of truth to all the accusations that these Lego adaptations are becoming the whores of the video game’s industry, but then again, who cares? Lego or no Lego, you can still get your hands on 45 new Rockband tracks for £17.99 which isn’t such a bad deal considering the next best price comes in at £24.64.
Lego: Rockband pretty much follows the same principle as all the other Lego titles. It slaps a Lego style veneer over an established brand, and tweaks the content to make it a bit more family orientated. Given that October’s release of Band Hero was a spectacular failure, Lego: Rockband does deserve credit for the fact it’s a lot more fun, but given the fact it’s attempting to appeal to a younger audience, the songs aren’t going to be to everyone’s cup of tea. However there are plenty of classics from artists like Queen, Iggy Pop, Blur, Spinal Tap and Jimmy Hendrix which should be to the liking of even the biggest rock connoisseur.
