New Mario Kart Wii Bundle Excises Pesky Gamecube Functionality

NB. This news post may contain some latent rage.

Don't you just love how console streamlining appears to be removing features these days, rather than adding them in? Dontcha just love it? Nintendo have just announced that there's a new console bundle coming this Christmas. In fact, it's almost identical to the old Mario Kart Wii console bundle, except it's all in black and features the new Wii console.

What's different about the new Wii console, I hear you ask. Well, it's primarily designed to stand horizontally rather than vertically. And you can't use any of your Gamecube equipment or Gamecube games any more. Which is, of course, just what we all wanted for Christmas. I mean, it's not like backwards compatibility is something of an attractive prospect. Of course extra functionality should be excised like a rogue boil.

If the Gamecube was a human being, it would be the little Victorian beggar child, disowned by its family, nose pressed up against the window, looking in on happy parents and their children playing Just Dance 2.

What's the point in a black Wii? They just sit there and gather dust anyways, black will show it up so much more.

Yet more 'breaking' news from the hottest press team there is.
If only this wasn't announced months ago...

Nintendo has just announced this black Mario Kart bundle - and the PSA about backwards compatibility is to help potential buyers make an informed decision. Thanks though.

Don't worry, he just trolls in all his posts.

usually like that on guru3d too... except when he is asking for help with buying cheap crap.

To be fair, the new wii console WAS announced as lacking backwards functionality several months ago. This MK bundle might be new, but the tone of the text suggests that lack of functionality is also "new and exciting" to Matt.

I'd understand the drop in features if the console was cheaper but its not is it. If they had done this and dropped the price I think people would have understood more...

Yeah we ran a piece on it back in August: http://www.dealspwn.com/wii-ditches-compatibility-74114

It just reminded me. Which then led to the rage. The point is that the bundle is new, rather than the console itself, so consumers should be wary of this.

And angry.
